Exploring primary immunodeficiencies from a multidisciplinary perspective: unraveling chronic rhinosinusitis and gut inflammation
- Primary immunodeficiencies (PID) represent a diverse group of disorders marked not only by an increased susceptibility to infections and malignancies but also by a significant burden of autoimmune and inflammatory complications.
- Given their heterogeneous nature, PID often present with symptoms that overlap with other medical specialties, leading to diagnostic challenges and delayed treatment. This symposium aims to explore PID through the lens of specialists who frequently encounter patients with manifestations suggestive of underlying immune dysfunction.
- We will focus on 2 key clinical presentations: chronic rhinosinusitis, commonly seen by otorhinolaryngologists, and immune-mediated gut inflammation, often managed by gastroenterologists. We seek to understand how these specialists recognize potential underlying PID, how they manage such patients, and how they collaborate with clinical immunologists to ensure comprehensive care.
- By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, we aim to enhance early recognition, accurate diagnosis, and optimal management of PID. Ultimately, this symposium would serve as a platform to bridge specialties, promote collaborative care, and improve outcomes for patients living PID.
